- Cystic Fibrosis
- SYMPTOMS. Signs may include delay in regaining birth weight (even with a
- good appetite), rapid breathing, chronic cough, paroxyms of coughing and
- vomiting, respiratory infections, protruberant abdomen, bluish color,
- barrel-like chest and large and foul-smelling stools.
- CAUSES are unknown at this time. It is a disease that affects the pancreas,
- respiratory system and sweat glands. It occurs in about 1 of 1500 births.
- It is also called mucoviscidosis, fibrocystic disease of the pancreas and
- pancreatic cystic fibrosis.
- TREATMENT. No cure is available at this time.
- .Extended life and improved health may often be the results of treatment.
- .Treatment may include breathing exercises, medication, careful diet, mist
- tents to help liquefy mucus and replacement of pancreatic enzymes.
