  2. SYMPTOMS. Signs may include delay in regaining birth weight (even with a
  3. good appetite), rapid breathing, chronic cough, paroxyms of coughing and
  4. vomiting, respiratory infections, protruberant abdomen, bluish color,
  5. barrel-like chest and large and foul-smelling stools.
  6. CAUSES are unknown at this time. It is a disease that affects the pancreas,
  7. respiratory system and sweat glands. It occurs in about 1 of 1500 births.
  8. It is also called mucoviscidosis, fibrocystic disease of the pancreas and
  9. pancreatic cystic fibrosis.
  10. TREATMENT. No cure is available at this time.
  11. .Extended life and improved health may often be the results of treatment.
  12. .Treatment may include breathing exercises, medication, careful diet, mist
  13.  tents to help liquefy mucus and replacement of pancreatic enzymes.
